Even as phenomena manifest they do not know existence, arising naturally as nothing more than inherent expres- 18 A TREASURE TROVE OF SCRIPTURAL TRANSMISSION sions of emptiness. Appearances that manifest as objects of the six avenues of consciousness arise naturally within this scope of awareness as a display of dream images or magical illusions. The Tantra Without Letters states: Seeing is continuous-things manifest in a manner consistent with my form. Hearing is continuous-things are heard in a manner consistent with my sound.

The all-creating monarch has also arrayed this. Ah! The all-creating monarch, teacher of teachers, arrays the heart essence as the mandala of awareness. All consciousness, all thoughts, whatever their content 10one is aware of them as the ultimate meaning of the unborn all-creating one. The enlightened form, speech, and mind of me, the all-creating one, are the threefold mandala of resting without contrivance in genuine being, not deliberately arranged, but perfect all at once. With this realization, one enters into the ultimate meaning of the spontaneously present heart essence.

But it makes perfect sense, even for those with limited intelligence, to respect as authentic spiritual teaching the fact that these enlightened qualities are totally pure by nature. Thus, I would speak to them as the Blessed One did in Vaishali when he persuaded some irreligious monks to respect the dharma. Now, it can be shown that within awareness-awakened mind-the kayas and timeless awareness do not come together or separate: Within awakened mind itself, which is without pitfalls, the spontaneous perfection of the three kayas, entailing no effort, is such that, without straying from basic space, they are spontaneously present and uncompounded.
